Autumn Leaves

When you have checked into your comfortable room, why not enjoy Our Tour. As you step out the front door of the George Frederick you will notice across the street, the modern architectural structure that is the civic offices for Dublin City Council. The council during construction of these tastefully designed civic offices ensured that their limited outdoor space was landscaped for your enjoyment. You can sit quietly on the granite seating provided for your convenience, as you enjoy a good book or simply listen to the flow of the ancient River Liffey.

Dublin City Council

Christchurch

Christchurch Cathedral sits at the top of Fishamble Street, this is a magnificent building dating back to 1030, and we know this date as the earliest manuscript dates Christchurch Cathedral to its present location around 1030, when you visit this national treasure make sure to take a tour of the Bell Tower, breath-taking. By this stage you will be ready for a break, and why not simply retire to Darkey Kellys Pub which is just up the street from the George Frederick Handel Hotel, enjoy lunch, evening tea or simply a beverage of your choice.

Darky Kellys

Stroll at your leisure through Temple Bar; use your camera to record the variety of traditional Irish pubs, theatres, Art and so forth that is on offer. If you are lucky enough to be in Temple Bar at the weekend you can enjoy the weekly open air markets that are held in the various squares for your perusal.

Street Market

Your journey will all depend on the day and time you are staying at the George Frederic Handle Hotel, however, let’s assume you are free during the day to have a walk about, and then Dublin Castle has to be a must on your journey. Dublin Castle was the seat of British colonialism in Ireland for centuries; however, we are grateful to have this Historical giant in our national heritage as it is now home to many national and international treasures including the Chester Beatty Library.

Dublin Castle

The Chester Beatty Library (entry FREE) is home to some of the most treasured literature in the world and is made up of the lifelong collection of Sir Chester Beatty, to walk through the Chester Beatty Library is to walk through time, cultures and traditions, now almost lost to time and memory. Dublin Castle has daily guided tours, in which participants will be given a clear and concise history of the role of Dublin Castle over the centuries.
Also housed within the walls of the grounds of Dublin Castle are the tranquil gardens that pay tribute and commemorate those members of our national police service (An Garda Siochana) who have fallen while serving our country. This beautifully landscaped garden also houses a monument to Irish Journalist Veronica Guerin who was murdered by drug dealers in 1996.

Chester Beatty Library

By now you will be tired and ready to relax for an hour, why not call into the Project Arts Centre in Temple Bar, here many shows can be enjoyed Free, while others may have a small charge attached they are all contributing to the survival of culture and art in Ireland and your support by visiting or participating are graciously invited.
While Temple Bar is home to many fine eating houses and traditional Irish pubs, The Italian Corner Restaurant is a highly recommended location for great food, world class service and value for money. By now you may want to retire to the comfort of your room at the George Frederic Handel Hotel, if you wish to do some late evening socialising, the funky Mezz Bar is recommended.
